The artwork "Calypso" takes the viewer on a surrealist journey into the Greek mythology of the sea goddess Calypso.
In the canvas, Calypso returns to the sea, but instead of the once idyllic world, she finds herself confronted with a disturbing reality: environmental destruction and the impact of humans on nature.
Bees and forests are dwindling, while an octopus hides amidst plastic, and in the background, an airplane symbolizes pollution.
Particularly noteworthy are Calypso's hair, which consists of an octopus — a sign of her highly intelligent nature and at the same time a metaphorical representation of the connection between the goddess and the sea creatures.
Her gaze is marked by despair in the face of the destructive forces threatening the sea: radioactive barrels, drifting icebergs, and birds consuming plastic are just a few symbols of humanity's disregard for nature.
